Bauhaus Reunite Again; Tour Planned

Despite a recording career that lasted only about five years, Bauhaus hit a nerve, especially among those prone to dressing in black velvet corsets and catsuits. The band's previous reunion (the 1998 "Resurrection Tour") didn't entirely quell their fans' longings, so expect sightings of happy/sad dancing at your local cemetery gates soon, because the original lineup of Daniel Ash, David J, Kevin Haskins, and Peter Murphy have reunited for a North American tour. The gloomy skulking begins October 16 in Mexico's capital city and will end November 26 in Miami. Unexpected as this tour might be to some, this writer can't seem to get past the fact that, despite all the dates listed below, there is not one announced for Halloween yet! C'mon!

Not surprisingly, there is a wider range to the band than many like-dressing bands that followed them: Minimal synth-driven workouts, obvious punk and new wave-influenced singles, experiments in atmospheric and noise textures, some interesting glam covers (T Rex's "Telegram Sam", David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust") and even small dabblings in dub (!) can are found throughout their oeuvre. However, like it or not, Bauhaus will forever be handcuffed to and remembered for their first single, the awesome nine-minute-plus mess that is "Bela Legosi's Dead". Whether any attempt to top it with new recordings will happen (Peter Murphy's been talking about it) remains to be seen; for now, make sure you have a few clove cigarettes on hand to smoke aloofly between sets and we'll see you at one of these shows:
