Pitchfork: Dirty Three to Tour Behind New LP

Mark your calendars: the world's foremost instrumental three-piece will be touching down in seven lucky U.S. cities this October. (No, silly, the John Mayer Trio isn�t instrumental!) But before Australian post-rock dreamweavers Dirty Three hit the States, they will treat London fans to an full rendering of their 1998 album Ocean Songs at the Barbican on October 5, as part of All Tomorrow's Parties' "Don't Look Back" concert series. Joining in for the festivities that evening are Sophia, playing The Infinite Circle in its entirety, and the Drones, a new ATP Recordings band from Melbourne. Whatever you love, you are:

Usually, bands don't make it a habit to tour without an album to promote unless they�re jambands, inherently big-hearted types, or Bob Dylan, and although we would never question the altruistic nature of the Dirty Three, they do, indeed, have a new album in the can. Entitled Cinder, it's due for release on October 11, courtesy of Touch & Go in the U.S. and the band's own Hope and Anchor label in Australia. Cinder was recorded earlier this year in Melbourne, with Casey Rice (Tortoise, Gastr del Sol, Liz Phair) at the production helm. For the first time, Dirty Three have added vocals to their sound, courtesy of Chan Marshall (Cat Power) and Mekons trooper Sally Timms. Here's the smoldering rundown:
