New Order To Release DVD, Singles Comp

Kati Llewellyn:
Warning: The following story revolves largely around the topic of an upcoming DVD release...by a band. Due to the popularity of the aforementioned topic throughout the past week, you-- the reader-- are advised to look into cranium enlargement surgery in order to accomodate your brain's increasing size, specifically the growth of its "rockumentary" division, to prevent internal bleeding and avoid certain death. Proceed at your own risk.

Now that we've got that out of the way, let's get down to business. New Order have announced the release of a dual-disc DVD featuring a 23-video collection, as well as a two-hour documentary. This extravaganza, titled New Order: Item, is set to hit stores September 20 via Rhino, so it might be wise so hold off on school book purchases until then to ensure funds for some DVD-spending. Oh, and if your mom asks, you didn't hear it from us.

In case you were wondering, yes, we have reported on this before, but things have changed since then! Important things! Tracklist information, interview details, the works. So, Mr. Know-It-All, shut your yap and keep reading. The first disc of the package is full of video love, containing New Order singles along the lines of "Bizarre Love Triangle", "Blue Monday", and "True Faith". Even those who recorded these on VHS 20 years back will notice a few surprises-- alternate versions and new videos for "Temptation" and "Ceremony" put together especially for you! The second disc is home to the band's documentary and personal interviews, as well as a celebrity interview with...wait for it...Bono. Sticking with his penchant for discussing serious, earth-altering topics, the U2 frontman will fill viewers in on the effect New Order's music has had on the world. They give out Pulitzers for rockumentary interviews, right?

Other contributers to the collection include director Jonathan Demme, photographer Wegman, animator Robert Breer, painter Robert Longo, and producer Michael H. Shamberg, who contributes to the DVD's liner notes. Aside from interpretive dance, all the fine arts seem to be covered here, and hey, it's New Order-- you can put together creative moves between eating popcorn and trying to pull the "fake yawn"/"arm around your love interest's shoulder" move. Happy viewing!
