Magnolia Electric Co. Release EP, Continue to Tour

Okay, so indie country rockers Magnolia Electric Co. haven't quite capitalized on the hype afforded to them by Jason Molina's Songs: Ohia good graces-- but dammit if they're not persistent, as the band have recently announced a string of new live dates that will drag their self-proclaimed, Dylan-esque "Neverending Tour" on through October. The band previously traipsed across the U.S. this spring and summer, making a much welcome stop at Pitchfork's Intonation Festival in July. As you might recall, Molina wore a long-sleeved shirt during his Intonation set, despite the ninety-five-degree temperature. It seems like dude has a weird relationship with the heat: Pitchfork reader Ben Garvey wrote in to report that two weeks ago at a packed show in a sweltering church basement in Philadelphia, Molina whipped a $100 bill out of his pocket and bought water bottles for the entire crowd. Wow. What a gentleman! Perhaps when Magnolia Electric Co. plays the Sticky Fingerz Rock & Roll Chicken Shack in Little Rock on September 15, it’ll be buffalo wings all around. Dates:

09-10 Cleveland, OH - Studio-A-Rama Fest, Case Western Reserve

This leg of the tour is in support of the Hard to Love a Man EP, the third Magnolia release of 2005, following the live album Trials & Errors and the studio full-length What Comes After the Blues. It features four new tracks-- three previously unreleased originals, and a cover of the Warren Zevon classic "Werewolves of London". The EP will be in stores on October 11 courtesy of Secretly Canadian, but fans can also purchase it at shows. Tracklist:

01 Hard to Love a Man
02 Bowery
03 Doing Something Wrong
04 31 Seasons in the Minor Leagues
05 Werewolves of London

According to the Secretly Canadian website, "Hard to Love a Man" and live staple "Werewolves of London" were recorded with Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio Studios. The remaining trio of tunes were cut at Echo Park Studios in Indiana with Paul Mahern (Blake Babies, Lisa Germano and John Mellencamp).
