Nick Cave Pens Screenplay, Soundtrack

This isn't the first time Cave has dabbled in soundtracking, or scriptwriting either. He partly handled both roles for 1988's Ghosts...of the Civil Dead. Besides that, he's been getting bit acting parts and soundtrack work since the early 1980s (it's also widely known that Cave was approached to write the screenplay to Gladiator II, and did complete a draft that was ultimately turned down by producers). The Proposition was filmed in Queensland and is being billed on some sites as an Australian Unforgiven for it's like-minded themes of family, love, and betrayal. The Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds site itself describes a sometimes violent, loyalty-testing plot complete with outlaw vs. police gunfights and a set of sociopath brothers. The film also, most peculiarly, features a "proposition". The movie was directed by John Hillcoat and boasts an impressive cast which includes Guy Pearce, Ray Winstone, Emily Watson, and John Hurt.

The soundtrack is rumored to be unlike anything previously released by Nick or the Dirty Three, but one would bet that some trace similarities to both Cave's and Ellis' past work will be apparent.
