The Mooney Suzuki Sign to V2

Last summer's Sony-BMG merger created a corporate monolith, a union that inevitably produces casualties, among which was New York garage rawkers the Mooney Suzuki. The group's manager, Lisa Barbaris, told Billboard that the Mooney Suzuki would have been kaput if not for its music being featured in ads, TV shows, and movies. Well, it all paid off, because last week the band signed a worldwide record deal with V2 Records.

The Mooney Suzuki's music has been featured in ads for Coors, American Eagle, and, soon, Suzuki (synergy!). In fact, "Alive & Amplified", catchy little ditty that it is, has made more than 10 "appearances" in various forms of media. The band has no qualms with its music being used to sell stuff. "The people we're having meetings with at the agencies are the same people we went to art and design school with-- literally," singer/guitarist Sammy James Junior told Billboard. "So, it felt good to work together. And it helps to pay our bills."

James Junior says he's working on material for a new album, adding that the lead single will be called "I'm Lovin' It". But, you know, we're making that last part up.
