Pitchfork: Ex Models Split in Half, Record, Tour

Mixing industrial-strength math rock and models, former or not, just don't make no sense. Everyone knows models can't add. And, despite an innate ability to match textures and tones while hoovering up Bolivian marching powder, they're certainly not very industrious. Yet, here are Ex Models again, for record three, cat-walking their way through mechanistic noise and the type of Byrne-y yelping that makes Clap Your Hands Say Alex Ounsworth's voice sound as mumbling, moaningly low. No, lower.

But don't expect your mama's Ex Models on their new album, Chrome Panthers, recently released by Troubleman Unlimited. Sure, the record is typically short and sweet (27 minutes), but the band is no longer tearing the ass out of the whole angular deca-danz rawk thing we likee a lot at Pitchfork. Nope, ever since half of the group (guitarist Shahryar Motia and drummer Jake Fielder) became ex-Ex Models last year, remaining guitarist Shahin Motia and bassist Zach Lehrhoff (in the company of Oneida drummer Kid Millions) have been exploring drones, grind and six-minute songs.

The Troubleman website describes Chrome Panthers like so: "The listener may find her or himself tripping balls to this record. Blast yourself in the brains with this Future-Primitive Noise music."
