Pitchfork: My Morning Jacket Hit the Road

Here's hoping My Morning Jacket caught some z's (har har!) over the past few weeks, �cause they're about to embark on a couple months of rock n roll all night and partying every day. That's right, tonight these southern rockers (ahem, we just coined that term) begin their nationwide tour, and we want to see them fit as a fiddle! They're winding their way through both the north and the south, with a stop on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" on October 13.

You probably don't need to be reminded that MMJ's latest album, Z, dropped on Tuesday on ATO/RCA records, because a big ol' review is sitting right there on the Pitchfork front page. (Damn, we're MMJin' all over ourselves today.) Fans are in an uproar, however, because the disc contains copy protection software that doesn't allow you to play it in iTunes or transfer it to your iPod. Fie on you, greedy Dave Matthews! Don't you have enough money already? Do you really have to punish the people who support the bands on your record label?

Sorry, we got carried away there for a minute. Anyway, as we told you back in August, the band is starring in Cameron Crowe's upcoming romantic comedy Elizabethtown where they're featured as a, um, southern rock band called "Ruckus". And, yes, they perform "Freebird". Ruck on, boys!

Appropriately, My Morning Jacket also appears on the film's tie-in EP Songs From the Brown Hotel, alongside Sun Kil Moon, Elvis, Bill Monroe, Nancy Wilson, and Patty Griffin. The disc hit shelves August 16 via the Coaliton of Independent Music Stores' Junket Boy label. Proceeds have gone/are going/will continue to go to the Center for Women and Families. Now there's some good ol' fashioned southern hospitality for ya.
