Lambchop Go Electronic on New EP

Lambchops are delicious. Lambchop is a cute lil' puppet. Lambchop are also a band from Nashville. Bands make songs and put them on albums. Sometimes they only make a few songs and put out EPs. Sometimes they do it themselves, sometimes they do it with another band. Lambchop recorded an EP with an electronic duo (Ryan Norris and Scott Martin) called Hands Off Cuba. They're also from Nashville. This is a story of band meets band.

Recorded between late 2004 and early 2005, the EP (appropriately titled CoLAB), is based on three Lambchop songs and one Hands Off Cuba original. We are told that "During this period sonic information was passed back and forth until completion." So at first we were all like, um, Postal Service? But then we were like, oh yeah, duh, they're both from Nashville-- they probably just rode Vespas from studio to studio. At least that's how we'd like to picture it. This just put an adorable image of Gibbard moseyin' on down to the corner mailbox, sending off a care package of vox'n'kisses to Jimmy Hey Mr. Tamborello Man. Aww, those guys are the cutest! Hey Pitchfork, when's the next Postal Service record coming out? [Sub Pop sez not until 2007 or so. Sorry, kids. - Ed.]

But back to Lambchop and Hands Off Cuba. CoLAB, due October 11 (hey, that's tomorrow!) from Merge, has a tracklist. The tracklist looks something like this:

01 Prepared
02 Blur
03 Women
04 Gus

Tour dates, you ask? According to a press release: "At this time there are no plans for live performances of this material as it was created as a 'recording' to be heard on stereos and headphones. Sometimes we feel this should be enough."

Well that press release must be lying, because Lambchop have two dates scheduled for this fall. And they are:

10-14 New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom *
10-15 North Adams, MA - Massachusetts MoCA

* with Ladybug Transistor

You can also hear Lambchop main man Kurt Wagner warbling on "Give It", the latest single from dance music titans X-Press 2. That's gotta be weird: It's 3 a.m. at your fave superclub, you're grinding with Paris Hilton, and all of a sudden you hear Kurt Wagner. Must be the ecstasy.
