Hella to Release Live DVD, Tour With Lame Bands

If you thought Hella opening for System of a Down and Mars Volta in hockey arenas across the country was lame and weird, get ready to roll your eyes yet again. Last week, the spazztrumental duo of guitar wizard Spencer Seim and drum madman Zach Hill headed out on the road once again, this time opening for Primus bass-man Les Claypool. Good lord, who will these guys blow off stage next? A Coheed & Cambria / Ween double-bill?

After their pork soda dunk-a-thon ends this weekend, Hella will return to more familiar territory, joining fellow headbangers Dillinger Escape Plan and Between the Buried and Me for a journey from northwestern Canada down to Texas.

Hella will make staying at home that much more appealing come November 8, when 5RC will release the Concentration Face live DVD, featuring footage from their last Japanese tour. No prog jam bands there! The DVD will come with an EP entitled Homeboy, which will be comprised of four brand new songs. If the track titles mean anything, it will be an entertaining album, to say the least:

01 Gothspel for You Not Them
02 Madonna Approaches R&B; Blonde Wreckages
03 BC but not Before Christ
04 If I Were in Hella I Would Eat Lick

Mmmm, lick! If those options just aren't enough to fulfill your deepest Hella needs, well, they'll probably sweat out another album or two in the next week or so. Or you could head to Northsix in Brooklyn on October 26, where Zach Hill will participate in a night of improvised music alongside Yeah Yeah Yeahs drummer Brian Chase and members of Storm and Stress, Anthony Braxton's group, Imaginary Folk, the Friendly Bears, Sticks and Stones, and others. Hella good.
