Grizzly Bear Get Remixed, Start Tour

On Halloween this year, we'd like to imagine that all four members of the Brooklyn band Grizzly Bear climbed into one giant ursine costume and ran around Williamsburg terrorizing everybody dressed up as The Warriors. Or they just stayed at home in their lair and handed out their newly remixed and reissued debut album, Horn of Plenty, to eager hipster trick-or-treaters.

Kanine Records will re-release Horn of Plenty on November 8 as a two disc set, with the original album paired with an impressive-looking remix album. Ariel Pink, Drew Daniel of Matmos/Soft Pink Truth/Pitchfork Media, Jimmy Tamborello of the Postal Service/Dntel/Figurine, Castanets, and a host of others tweaked da Bear's tracks. Amazingly enough, all of the remixers were contacted via online outlets and jumped on board free of charge. Ah, the power of the internet.

The remix project opened quite a few doors for the Grizzly boys. The Danish band Efterklang loved Horn of Plenty so much they decided to put it out overseas on their label, Rumraket. (It drops on November 7 in Europe and January 30 in the UK.) Additionally, Grizzly frontman Ed Droste is set to lend some vocals to the upcoming Dntel record, while Final Fantasy (aka Owen Pallet of the Arcade Fire) has signed on to arrange the strings for the next Grizzly Bear album, due out in 2006.

DFA associate Tim Sweeney's take on "Fix It/Service Bell", which was originally set to be included on the remix album, will instead be released separately as a single or EP next year. In other Grizzly Bear single news, Germany's Tomlab label recently put out a split 7" featuring the band and furry Icelandic friends Seabear.
