Black Keys Kick Off North American Trek Today

To crib the formerly named Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the Black Keys don't play no blues, they play rock n' roll. Well, they play both to equally good effect, and we're not talking Blues Hammer here. We're talking the kind of stuff that gets you signed to Fat Possum Records.

If it's not readily apparent that the town of Akron, Ohio can inspire raw, muddy jams, the duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney aim to show that Midwest unrest is a very real thing. Tonight, they kick off a tour that will take them though the East Coast and Canada. According to the band's site, tickets are selling like hotcakes. Feel the dirty fury at these dates:

Also, Pitchfork has just learned that the band is recording a covers EP of songs by late bluesman Junior Kimbrough, who also happened to be their Fat Possum labelmate. (Earlier this year, the Black Keys contributed a version of "My Mind Is Ramblin" to Fat Possum's Junior Kimbrough tribute album, Sunday Nights.) No tracklist or release date has been set, but they're aiming for early next year.
