The Sounds Prepare Sophomore Album

With the Scandinavian garage rock explosion sucked back into the sad black hole of industry hype, Sweden's almost famous new-wavers the Sounds are getting a second chance to take on America with their sophomore LP, Dying to Say This to You, due early next year.

Following up the band's 2003 debut Living in America, which featured the peppy single "Seven Days a Week" (as heard in several television commercials), the new album is set for release on March 21 through Scratchie/New Line, and will feature 10 new potential jingles from the quintet. A lone bonus track will be tacked on to the running order, offering a reworked, rockier, version of the album's piano ballad "Night After Night."

Swedes for my sweet:

01 Song with a Mission
02 Queen of Apology
03 Tony the Beat
04 24 Hours
05 Painted By Numbers
06 Night After Night
07 Ego
08 The Sounds Don't Want To Hurt You
09 Much Too Long Now
10 Running Out of Turbo
11 Night After Night (bonus track)

And coming on like a who's who of modern alt-rock, the above tracks were recorded at Studio 880 in Oakland, CA (where punk kings Green Day laid down their mega-hit American Idiot) with Jeff Saltzman (of Killers fame) handling production duties. Former Smashing Pumpkin James Iha (who runs Scratchie Records) and Adam Schlesinger from soon-to-be I Love the 00s footnote Fountains of Wayne contributed additional knob-twiddling.

The Sounds are currently "living in America", at least for this week. Following a gig in L.A. last weekend, they'll play the Hiro Ballroom in New York City tomorrow night. A handful of European shows will are also set for early December, with the band supporting Stellastarr*. Dates:

11-17 New York, NY - Hiro Ballroom *
11-29 London, UK - Club Metro #
11-30 Edinburgh, UK - Cabaret Voltaire #
12-01 Manchester, UK - Late Room #
12-02 London, UK - Koko (Club NME) #

* with Shiny Toy Guns
# with Stellastarr*

And finally, The Sounds brought their brand of musical corsage to a would-be late 90s TRL dream date last night, when they performed on "Last Call With Carson Daly". Which, if you think about it, should really be called "Last Call for Carson Daly".
