Beastie Boys to Release Fan-Created Concert Film

The movie, which is expected to debut at major film festivals early next year, draws its name from the concept-rock manner in which it was shot. At their October 9, 2004 show at NYC's Madison Square Garden, the group handed out fifty video cameras to various audience members, and told them to record what they saw. Hey, didn't Bon Jovi do that a million years ago?

As a recent press release kindly elaborated, "These 50 different passionate perspectives shot from the point-of-view of the audience take the viewer deep inside the world of a live Beastie Boys show, capturing the experience from a variety of perspectives in a way no film has ever done." (Once again, we defer to Bon Jovi.) Or in the eloquent words of Adam "MCA" Yauch, "The people that shot it were feeling it." And these guys caught flak for being too white back in the day?! Pshaw!

Official directing credit (we imagine the fifty-cameraman shoot breaks some kind of Director's Guild commandment) goes to longtime Beasties "collaborator" Nathaniel Hornblower (aka Yauch), who produced the project along with Jon Doran. The film should see its worldwide theatrical release via THINKFilm at a yet-to-be determined date next Spring. A summer date is also expected for the DVD release, but details are scant as yet.
