Mazarin and Rogue Wave Kick Off Tour

It's always good news when bands decide to buck the trend and head out on the road before Christmas, during the normally dead-zone touring month of December. In a move that may precipitate increased heart beating during these cold days, Mazarin and Rogue Wave have banded together for a string of U.S. dates, set to start tonight in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Brrr! Unfortunately, Mazarin had to drop off the first two tour stops due to the death of a band member's family friend. But they'll join up with Rogue Wave on Friday in New York City

It's been a good year for Philly bands and a great year for Mazarin. As the songwriting heart of the band, frontman Quentin Stoltzfus has given fans an oddly-timed, beautiful album, We're Already There. Many more people will get the chance to hear this unique pop gem come January 16, when Bella Union will issue the album in Europe. The band also makes an appearance on the Filter/Urban Outfitters Hurricane Katrina benefit compilation, alongside Beck, Calexico, TV on the Radio and others, as well as on a comp of Philly bands, curated by Shai Halperin of Capitol Years, due out on the Spanish label Houston Party Records. Other groups representing Illadelph on the disc include Dr. Dog, Hail Social, Lilys, and the Teeth.

Rogue Wave are touring in support of their second album on Sub Pop, Descended Like Vultures. The disc has helped them shed those pesky Shins comparisons, although I can think of way worse things to be compared to. Like Men Without Hats.
