Merge Auctions Arcade Fire, Spoon, GBV Posters

If you had trouble giving thanks last week on account of all the food stuffed in your piehole, now's your chance to make up for lost time. Merge Records has announced a series of eBay auctions benefiting Oxfam and the North Carolina Food Bank, featuring autographed silk-screened tour posters from 14 bands on the label's roster. So you can express gratitude for your own good fortune by helping to feed the hungry, and buy something that Britt Daniel actually touched, all at the same time. The Spoon, Destroyer, and Tenement Halls auctions are already underway, with a little over two days left for bidding. Other bands contributing their wares and John Hancocks are the Arcade Fire, Guided by Voices, Lou Barlow, American Music Club, the Clientele, Superchunk, M. Ward, Crooked Fingers, Lambchop, Portastatic, and the Rosebuds.

Merge will post a new set of two or three posters every few days until the end of the year, with the final auction closing on January 1. The label is keeping the schedule of posters a secret for now, so check Merge's eBay page for updates, or to snicker at the outrageous prices people are willing to pay for these things (a favorite pastime of eBay trolls far and wide).

No wait, we take back that last snarky comment. We hope these posters go for exorbitant sums of money, since both beneficiary charities are great causes. The UK-based Oxfam, dedicated to fighting poverty, helps with disaster relief, lobbies for fair trade, and spearheads education initiatives, among its many services. The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina serves over 400,000 people throughout the state, many of them children and the elderly. So please, spend your last paycheck on an Arcade Fire poster.
