Pedro the Lion to Release Annual Christmas Single

Christmas music: Eleven months of the year, you could give a crap. But every December, you dig out the old Victrola and give those classic records a spin. Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis Presley, Perry Como, and...Pedro the Lion? Well, yes. Tomorrow, November 29, Suicide Squeeze will release the third annual Christmas 7" single from everybody's favorite indie Xian before Sufjan came along, David Bazan. In his Pedro guise, Bazan takes on "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and that old crowd favorite "Silent Night", captured for your pleasure on marble vinyl.

Past singles have included versions of "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" and "The First Noel", as well as a cover of the Low original "Long Way Around the Sea". However, if you'd like to possess these stocking stuffers, you're shit out of luck, as each release has been limited to several thousand copies and is long sold out. This year's 7" is no exception (except for the being sold out part), with a mere 2,000 copies available for purchase from the Suicide Squeeze website. The label is throwing around the phrase "continuing series," so if you're holding out for a Pedro the Lion version of "All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth", well, maybe next year.

Bazan will spread holiday cheer down the West Coast next week, with a solo mini-tour alongside Sub Pop singer/songwriter/comedian Rosie Thomas.
