Band of Horses (ex-Carissa's Wierd) Sign to Sub Pop

If the quiet dissolution of Seattle's beloved Carissa's Wierd left an aching void in your heart, and wild horses couldn't drag you away from the ensuing melancholy, perhaps their slightly-more-domesticated brethren can. Band of Horses, featuring ex-Carissa mopers Ben Bridwell and Mat Brooke, have arrived, inked a deal with indie mecca Sub Pop, toured with Iron and Wine and Okkervil River, and might just prove panacea to that ailing heart of yours.

The quartet, rounded out by bassist Chris Early and drummer Tim Mienig, and decked out in more flannel than 1991, will release their Sub-Pop-branded debut full-length on March 21. Everything All The Time features production from Phil Ek (who tweaked for fellow flannel-fiends Modest Mouse and Built To Spill, as well as the Shins) and ten reverb-happy ballads to soundtrack a twilight trek down a lonesome rural byway. According to Bridwell, the title has nothing to do with Radiohead, ice ages, women and children, bunkers, and all that.

Equus by nature:

04 The Funeral

09 Monsters

Largely ditching the somber, string-laden chamber-pop and frightfully intimate bedroom-born dirges favored by Carissa's Wierd (the latter still very much the m.o. of S, aka ex-Wierdo Jenn Ghetto), Band of Horses deal in gauzy, moonlit alt-country, with nods to Neil Young, My Morning Jacket, and likeminded acts. The foursome have hinted at following up Everything with an EP and leaving their Seattle corral for some touring; for now, the cinephiles among us may catch Horses in this rather apposite setting:
