Magnolia Electric Co. Take Up Residence in Chicago

Putting the "work" back in working-class rock, Jason Molina's (Songs: Ohia) current vehicle Magnolia Electric Co. will march out on the road yet again this spring. Touring behind no less than three 2005 releases (the full-length What Comes After the Blues, live LP Trials & Errors, and EP Hard to Love a Man), Molina and friends will butt heads halfway through with New Pornographer Dan Bejar, performing under his Destroyer guise.

Up first is a one-off gig this Sunday at the "Tomorrow Never Knows" festival at Schubas Tavern in Chicago, an event excellent enough to warrant its own digression. And so, we digress:

Chicagoans Jeremiah Wallis and Matt Rucins founded the fest last year in an effort to showcase homegrown talent during the touring-band-bereft and frosty month of January. On board for the sequel, in addition to out-of-state act Magnolia Electric Co. are local favorites Chin Up Chin Up, Thrill Jockey's Pit Er Pat, Chi-town balladeer Kevin Tihista, and Elliott Smith-comrade Andrew Morgan, as well as Manishevitz, the Spinto Band, and recent garnerers-of-buzz Tapes ‘n Tapes.

The four-day fest kicks off tonight with Tihista and Morgan (with full band) headlining and all gigs go down at Schubas. Behold the comprehensive run-down:

01-12 Kevin Tihista, Andrew Morgan, Tenki
01-13 Manishevitz, The Spinto Band, The 1900s, Moonlight Towers
01-14 Chin Up Chin Up, Pit Er Pat, Tapes ‘n Tapes, Lake Holiday
01-15 Magnolia Electric Co, Palliard, Smallwire, The Deaths

Schubas loves Jason Molina, as the veteran songwriter and one-time Chicago resident will curate and perform every Monday at the club in February. Billed as "A Month of Mondays", and sure to be intimate, here are the dates:

02-06 Chicago, IL - Schubas *
02-13 Chicago, IL - Schubas %
