Metric to Open for Rolling Stones, Tour America

Tonight and tomorrow night, the old world underground and the new arena mainstream collide. Following in the footsteps of everybody from the White Stripes to Queens of the Stone Age to Merle Haggard to the Meters, and yes, Brooks & Dunn, Canada's Metric will open for a little band called the Rolling Stones. And they're not even the Montreal shows, as one might have guessed, but the New York City ones, at Madison Square Fucking Garden no less. Suddenly, Emily Haines has more long lost cousins than Canada has citizens.

In between MSG gigs, Metric will perform on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" tomorrow night. Assuming they survive the Stones and Conan experiences, the band will take a month-long break before embarking on an extensive North American tour in February, March, and April. Big Apple denizens who can't afford $454 Stones tickets will be happy to know that the band will return to the city on March 10, when they will play Webster Hall for merely $20. A bargain, considering ex-Unicorns phenoms Islands are on the bill too.
