Prodigy Singles Collection Coming to U.S.

Once upon a time, the Prodigy stepped up to the plate in America and, commercially speaking, hit the ball out of the park with a little album called The Fat of the Land. Legend has it that they even had a few hits in Europe before that whole "electronica craze" thing went down in the late 90s. No, wait, it was more like a double-digit number of hits.

So it's no surprise that when the group released Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 in the UK last year, it was more than a modest success. Now it's time for the Prodigy to court America one more time: on February 28, XL Recordings U.S. will issue Their Law stateside. It's a double-disc set featuring 30 tracks (virtually the same as the original version) of Liam Howlett productions and the occasional Keith Flint flair-up. A separate DVD will be released on the same day.

These would be some pretty sweet laurels to rest on, but in a recent interview with Nekozine, Howlett revealed that he's working on material for an album that will again feature Flint and Maxim Reality (missing from 2004's Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned): "It will have more of the melodic value the first and second album had, but maybe the third didn't have that much. Cause I think the first album had quite a lot of musical value, but I think as time has gone on that has taken a bit of a back seat, but I think the new stuff definitely has more musical value."

No timetable has been announced for the album's release (Rumsfield's on the marketing team), but the Prodigy have a few live dates scheduled for 2006, including a stop at the Ultra Festival in Miami in March. There may even be an American tour at some point, but according to the group's PR, nothing has been confirmed. You think we're teases? There's five live tracks on Their Law.
