Belle and Sebastian Become Comics, Compile Mix CD

Move on over, Questionable Content, a new hipster comic is here to grab the spotlight. While QC has Faye and Martin dropping indie buzzwords left and right, it ain't got nothing on Put the Book Back on the Shelf: A Belle & Sebastian Anthology. Due out February 22 from Image Comics, Put the Book Back on the Shelfis a 144-page color collection of comics by various independent cartoonists who have "put their own spins on a cross section of Belle and Sebastian's songs, crafting stories inspired by the band's music, drawn from the band's entire catalog," according to a press release.

The book will appear on shelves (before, presumably, it's put back) shortly after B&S;' upcoming album, The Life Pursuit, lands in the UK on February 6 (Rough Trade) and the US February 7 (Matador).

Hey, did we mention that The Life Pursuit will be available in a limited-edition CD/DVD package? Don't think we did. The DVD will contain six performances recorded live on BBC Scotland. And they are:

01 Another Sunny Day
02 Dress Up in You
03 To Be Myself Completely
04 Mornington Crescent
05 Funny Little Frog
06 White Collar Boy

And in a surprising development, it appears that Belle and Sebastian have curated the next volume in Azuli Records' Latenighttales series of compilations. They join the likes of the Flaming Lips, Four Tet, Turin Brakes, Sly & Robbie, and, ugh, Jamiroquai in collecting their most loved tracks by other artists onto one handy lifestyle soundtrack disc. In addition to cuts by such unexpected B&S; faves as RJD2 and Paperclip People, the compilation also contains a brand new Belle and Sebastian cover of the Brazilian song "Casaco Marron". It's due out February 27 in the UK.
