Radiohead Headlining Bonnaroo

Not to be confused with Bumbershoot, Vegoose, Sasquatch, Langerado, and of course, Coachella (whose lineup we announced yesterday), the the three-day "Music & Arts Festival" Bonnaroo has gone down on a farm south of Nashville, Tennessee, for the past four summers. In previous years, Bonnaroo has hit you with such top crop indie talent as Modest Mouse, Joanna Newsom, My Morning Jacket, M. Ward, Mouse on Mars, and Rilo Kiley, and offset that sparkly goodness with boatloads of jam bands.

Well kiddies, Bonnaroo is back, and this year they're breaking out the big guns. Topping the bill, along with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is Radiohead, a band whose music some of you probably find pleasurable to a degree. Other notables getting their 'roo on: Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, Ben Folds, My Morning Jacket, Cat Power, Amadou & Mariam, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Devendra Banhart, the Magic Numbers, Seu Jorge, Dungen, and Andrew Bird.

Bonnaroo 2006 will explode June 16 at the same 700-acre farm in Manchester, TN as last year, with the ensuing conflagration of music and arts burning on through the 18. Tickets for the extravaganza go on sale February 11 at 10:00 AM (eastern time), through bonnaroo.com. Snatch 'em up while you can, folks, for the Bonnaroo people have reduced capacity for the event by 10,000 this year. This means you, and only a mere 79,999 of your friends can make Bonnaroo 2006 a part of your lives forever. Snooze and lose, as they say.

In edition to le rock, Bonnaroo 2006 boasts, "a 24-hour cinema, a comedy tent, an arcade, an onsite beer festival, a Mardi Gras parade, an Internet café, a digital music lounge, wireless hot spots, a silent disco, masquerade ball, restaurants and much more," according to the press release. Silent disco, eh? Now that's heavy.

Here's the comprehensive Bonnaroo rundown: Radiohead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Phil Lesh and Friends, Beck, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Bonnie Raitt, Death Cab for Cutie, moe., Bright Eyes, The Neville Brothers, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Buddy Guy, Damian Marley, Ben Folds, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Dr. John, Matisyahu, G. Love and Special Sauce, My Morning Jacket, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Steel Pulse, Mike Gordon and Ramble Dove, Cat Power, Medeski Martin and Wood, Nickel Creek, Gomez, Atmosphere, Steve Earle, Blues Traveler, Amadou & Mariam, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Dresden Dolls, Son Volt, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Jerry Douglas, Soulive, Rusted Root, Devendra Banhart Band, Donavon Frankenreiter, Mike Doughty, Sasha, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, The Magic Numbers, Bill Frisell, Seu Jorge, Bettye LaVette, Dungen, Shooter Jennings, Rebirth Brass Band, Robinella, Andrew Bird, Steel Train, Jackie Greene, Devotchka, Wood Brothers, dios (malos), Toubab Krewe, The Motet, Marah, I-Nine, Balkan Beat Box, and Cat Empire, with additional acts pending.

You may breathe now.

And speaking of Radiohead, as the boys march interminably forward with the recording of LP7, the winds of change have taken a-hold: Thom Yorke and the gang will not be recording with long-time producer Nigel Godrich. Instead, the band have shacked up with Mark "Spike" Stent, whose past production credits include Madonna and Björk.

Blogged Thom recently: "so here we are with spike stent in our studio which now looks like NASA. and we are being taken to task. we are having to shake the dust off. no more bullshit. stop answering the phones and thinking of excuses to leave the building. instead get on with it."

So there you go, ladies and gentlemen: it's on.
