Lightning Bolt Side Project Wizardzz LP Due

Lord of the Rings? Harry Potter? The Chroni-WHAT-cles of Narnia? Forget them (unless it's a snack attack, muthafucka). Your new trip to fantasy island is here thanks to the latest side project from Brian Gibson of Rhode Island psych-spazzers Lightning Bolt.

Gibson and Rich Porter (Bug Sized Mind) are Wizardzz. With Gibson ditching his Lightning Bolt bass for the drums and Porter on keyboard and synthesizer, the band, according to their website, is "a creamsicle journey through car commercial jangltastic sound forgery. Rocking...yes." Boring...no.

Hidden City of Taurmond, the duo's first album, will be released by Load Records on March 21. Also on that day, Load will unleash the DVD Wizardzz Tale by Gibson's Barkley's Barnyard Critters animation project. It will probably make "Wonder Showzen" look like "Popeye".

Quoth the site, "If the Sponge Bob generation ever knew what that bitter almond taste was in their food, they would gladly stop drinking from the spout of diluted Bush tainted death juice. Simple stories expanded into hallucinogenic realities not seen since your last trip into the dark chambers of the devolutionary isolation tank." True dat, DOUBLE TRUE!

We're about to get taken to a dream world of magic:

01 Disembark
02 Sailship
03 Whispers From Wallface
04 Glimpse of the Hidden City
05 Jelipper-Lilly Field
06 "Do Come In" (tea and chulliwigs)
07 Sea Battle at Orkusk
08 Diamond Mirror
09 Chasing Our Shadows
10 Ambushed by Time Quagga
11 the Bubiliad Woods of Taurmond
12 Ladydragons
13 Rest at the Gate
14 Mimi Vivian Sunrise (live)

Gibson's Boltmate, Brian Chippendale, has been busy releasing super limited edition CD-Rs of his solo project, Black Pus. But don't worry, he's not being snobby about it: all of Black Pus's music will soon be available for free download from the Faux Fetus Collective.

As for Lightning Bolt, the duo recently contributed an exclusive track, "Excitebike", to the benefit compilation A Benefit for Our Friends. Proceeds go towards paying the medical expenses of the Japanese psych-garage band DMBQ, following the tragic car accident last November that claimed the life of their drummer. Comets on Fire, Paik, Trans Am, the Fucking Champs, and many others are also on the compilation.

Lighting Bolt will play the Sleater-Kinney-curated May 20 date of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in England, along with the Boredoms, Joanna Newsom, Spoon, the Gossip, Dungen, David Cross, Radar Bros., 1990's, and Edith Frost. They're also scheduled to perform in Ireland sometime in May, and in Japan in June. Exact dates and times are still unknown. So if you happen to be inn either of those countries during those months, check your local warehouse/vacant lot/abandoned building frequently for signs of wear and tear.
