Futureheads Launch Tribute Tour Tonight
In, uh, tribute to the title of their upcoming sophomore album News and Tributes, the Futureheads have planned a unique concept tour of England. Each stop of the trek, which launches tonight in Oxford, will be dedicated to an artist that influenced the making of the record. The Futureheads will play each musician's tunes and pass out flyers with an explanation of why "each particular individual is worthy of [their] admiration," according to the band's website. Our money's on Kate Bush, Wire, Gang of Four, Rednex, the Gin Blossoms, Earth, Wind and Fire, Napalm Death, and Tangerine Dream. The brief jaunt's dates were first revealed on the Futureheads site through a word search. Nerds. But then, after this reporter spent an hour solving the thing, the band posted them on the "live" section of the site. Jerks.
Dates:
02-28 Oxford, England - Zodiac
03-01 Portsmouth, England - Wedgewood Rooms
03-03 Preston, England - 53 Degrees
03-05 Sheffield, England - Leadmill
03-07 Northampton, England - Soundhaus
03-08 Nottingham, England - Rescue Rooms
03-09 Colchester, England - Arts Centre
03-10 Stoke, England - Sugarmill
News and Tributes, due in late April if all goes according to plan, will feature eleven or twelve songs, including previously reported tracks "Worry", "Thursday", "Yes/No", "Cope", "Fallout", "The Return of the Berserker", "Faith", "Knife in the Water", "Back to the Sea", "Skip to the End", and the tentatively titled "Munich" (not an Editors cover).
In an interview in January, singer/guitarist Barry Hyde told Pitchfork, "A few people might be surprised by what they might hear. I think it's many leaps beyond what we've been doing...it's quite a brave statement of an album."
