Pitchfork: Oxford Collapse Sign to Sub Pop

Fans of alphanumeric sorting rejoice! This week, New York's Oxford Collapse officially became the first "O" band to sign to Seattle's prestigious Sub Pop Records. "We signed our lives away on Thursday night over burgers n' beers on the Upper East Side," says Collapse drummer Dan Fetherston. "Needless to say, we're happy about working with a great, respected label like Sub Pop; they've been very welcoming and enthusiastic."

Oxford Collapse is the second band to announce their signing to Sub Pop in recent weeks, following Allentown, PA-based Pissed Jeans.

Communicating via e-mail, Fetherston told Pitchfork that the band plans to enter an as-yet-undetermined recording studio in June, and to release the resulting album some time in the fall. The forthcoming album will likely feature new versions of several songs that the band recorded last November with Joshua Ryan and Erich Emm at the Recording Society in Brooklyn, including "Please Visit Your National Parks", "Let's Vanish", "Lil Gold Hammer", "Loser City", and "Return of Burno".

In the meantime, Oxford Collapse has released a limited edition, hand-silkscreened 7" on Brooklyn-based Version City Records, containing the songs "Decking the Classics" and "Packed Churches". The band will also be contributing a cover of Credence Clearwater Revival's "Hey Tonight" to a compilation for an upcoming comic book being released by Pittsburgh-based Unicorn Mountain art collective.

Finally, as previously reported, Oxford Collapse are currently on the road with the UK noise monsters Part Chimp. Later this month, they'll meet up with Portland-based popsters the Joggers for a brief Midwest jaunt.
