Create(!) Team With Castanets, Half-Handed Cloud

It's been five years since the last Create(!) album, so it must be about time for a shot of extended, free-form jazz improvisation. The core trio of Create(!), Justice Constantine, Orlando Greenhill, and Chris Schlarb, collaborated on the new full-length, A Prospect of Freedom, with Raymond Raposa of Castanets, Lynn Johnston (Red Krayola, Eugene Chadbourne), and Kris Tiner (Empty Cage Quartet, Wadada Leo Smith).

Create(!) hits the road today, a day after the release of Freedom on Sounds Are Active. They're touring with Asthmatic Kitty singer/songwriter Liz Janes, with whom the band had previously collaborated on an album of reworked public domain material. Uber-efficient pop practitioner (and Friend of Sufjan) Half-Handed Cloud joins Create(!) and Janes for all dates.

No strangers to "reworked material", Create(!) are biting at the "remix this" contest trend by inviting fans to work some remixatory magic on the A Prospect of Freedom track "Six Dreams/Divided". Up for grabs is $150 and all of the 2006 releases from Sounds Are Active. The contest is being lorded over by a panel jury featuring Dave Longstreth of the Dirty Projectors, Adam Varga of dailysonic.com, Chris Cantalini of gorillavsbear.net, Judy Miller of Motormouthmedia, Chris Scofield of Strange Attractors Audio House, Maria Gonima of Tigerbeat6 and Asphodel, and Jason Munn of the Small Stakes.
