Broken Social Scene Curate Fest, Tour Europe

After bringing home a Juno Award last week for Alternative Album of the Year (and dissing "Canadian Idol" backstage), Broken Social Scene will bring even more glory to their home country by hosting the Olympic Island mini-festival in Toronto this summer.

The event, set to take place on June 24, is being curated by BSS/Arts & Crafts for the second year in a row, and will feature Bloc Party, Feist, J Mascis, Raising the Fawn, and one additional yet-to-be-confirmed artist. Festival-goers have to take a ferry in order to get to the venue, and we think that's rad.

Before the fest, BSS will head out on a small European trek. Notable stops include All Tomorrow's Parties, the Orange Blossom Festival, the Immergut Festival, and a free show at Galway's Warwick. Dates:

05-17 Galway, Ireland - The Warwick
05-18 Dublin, Ireland - Vicar Street
05-19 East Sussex, England - Camber Sands Holiday Centre (All Tomorrow's Parties) *
05-22 London, England - KOKO
05-23 Paris, France - Cafe de la Danse
05-24 Lyon, France - Transbordeur Club
05-25 Strasbourg, France - La Laiterie Club
05-26 Beverungen, Germany - Orange Blossom Festival
05-27 Neustrelitz, Germany - Immergut Festival #
06-24 Toronto, Ontario - Olympic Island ^

* with Dinosaur Jr., Dead Meadow, Bevis Frond, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Lilys, Eater, Magik Markers, Herman Dune, Mt. Eerie/the Microphones, Mission of Burma, Teenage Fanclub
# with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Art Brut, Feist, Okkervil River, the Appleseed Cast
^ with Bloc Party, Feist, J Mascis, Raising the Fawn

In the meantime, Broken Social Scene's core members are working on new material, but it is expected to be released as various side and solo projects, not a follow-up to the band's 2005 self-titled effort.

Andrew Whiteman has spent the past month in Montreal's Mastercut Studios recording a new Apostle of Hustle album with BSS live sound engineer Marty Kinack. Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning are deep in the writing process, and their works will likely see release as separate solo projects. Finally, BSS producer Dave Newfeld is currently working on his very own album, and hopefully not getting the crap beat out of him by anybody.
