Psapp Celebrate New Album With Balloons

Riding the success of "Cosy in the Rocket", the theme song to the ABC hit "ER: The Freshman Years" (more popularly known as "Grey's Anatomy"), celebrated UK outfit Psapp will return to air conditioned store shelves this summer with the follow up to their 2004 debut LP Tiger My Friend. Titled The Only Thing I Ever Wanted, the disc will be released in the UK on May 22, with a U.S. pressing following closely on June 6.

According to a recent label press release from Domino, your new home for all things Psapp, the band's sophomore effort was recorded in their Kings Cross studio, and will feature 11 new compositions described as a "brimful of undeniable pop hooks and gorgeous, mosaic-like arrangement details, it is surely the most poignant songwriting ever to be underscored by toy animals and kitchen utensils." Spoon and the Knife beg to differ.

Break out the Fisher Price tea set and Hawaiian Punch, because the tracklist looks like this:

01 Hi
02 King of You
03 This Way
04 Needle and Thread
05 New Rubbers
06 Tricycle
07 Hill of our Home
08 The Words
09 Make Up
10 Eating Spiders
11 Upstairs
The record's debut single, "Tricycle", lands in the UK on April 24. A video for the track is streaming on Domino's website.

And as a creative slap in the face to Prince's recent Wonka-style promo contest, Psapp will be pulling a more subtle pre-release stunt for the disc: unleashing a flock of fifty balloons across the foggy skies of their native London on an undisclosed day in the coming weeks, each with an attached note good for scoring "exclusive drawings" and a free copy of The Only Thing I Ever Wanted. But isn't that kind of thing bad for the environment?

In a more conventional stab at album support, the band will tour North America, England, and France this spring and summer. This week, they'll play a couple of buzz-gathering shows in New York and Los Angeles, and they'll return to our shores in June for a tour with José González and Juana Molina.
