Bright Eyes Working With Janet Weiss, M. Ward

Look! Off on the horizon! There it is-- a new Bright Eyes album! Slated for a spring 2007 release! According to Billboard.com, Conor Oberst, superproducer Mike Mogis, and frequent Saddle Creek collaborator Nate Walcott are hard at work on the follow-up to 2005's I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. The trio is in the studio chipping 25-30 songs down to 10-12 for the final product. Unless, of course, they decide to go all double-album on us again.

Billboard.com also reports that drum goddess Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney, Quasi), John Fahey worshipper M. Ward, and old-timey siren Gillian Welch have been "tapped" for the album. That sounds kinda dirty.

At this point in time, Bright Eyes have but two tour dates scheduled. The first is a set at Bonnaroo on June 16. The second will be a free hometown concert at Omaha, Nebraska's Memorial Park on June 17, according to the Omaha World-Herald. Jason Kulbel of Saddle Creek also told the World-Herald that Bright Eyes have a three-week tour of Canada in the works for this summer. So stay tuned.

As reported earlier this morning, Bright Eyes will be featured on the Coachella documentary DVD, which is set for an April 18 release on Anti- Records.
