Jimmy Tamborello Preps James Figurine Album

Back in 2001, producer Jimmy Tamborello (best known as one half of the Postal Service), as part of his group Figurine, toured Germany with Lali Puna. By his account, they only had a few tapes in the van, "mostly techno." In a case of musical Stockholm Syndrome, Tamborello became fascinated with the stuff. Recently, he set out to make a minimal, melodic solo record, but "my technopop tendencies got the best of me, the songs slowly filled up, and this is what I ended up with."

"This" is Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake, Tamborello's forthcoming LP, to be released by Plug Research on July 25. It's credited to the Ramones-style stage name James Figurine, rather than Dntel, Tamborello's usual solo moniker. Why? Who knows.

Mistake boasts guest spots from King of Convenience Erlend Øye and the unavoidable Jenny Lewis.
