Elf Power Tour in Support of New LP

The last time we checked in with Elf Power's Andrew Rieger, he spilled the news that the band had completed recording a then-untitled new album, was shopping it to labels, and would be releasing it sometime in spring of 2006. True to his word, next Tuesday, April 25, will see the release of a new Elf Power album, Back to the Web, on Rykodisc.

Don't you love it when elves keep their promises? I can't count the number of times I've met one who said they would trade me their plus one throwing dagger, then reneged.

The 12 tracks on Back to the Web embrace acoustic lushness rather than the sparkle and strut of the last Elf Power album, 2004's Walking with the Beggar Boys. As Rieger told Pitchfork last fall, the album rocks in "a face-melting psychedelic manner." Oh yeah!

Joining Rieger on the album are The Late BP Helium (Brian Poole), Derek Almstead, John Fernandes, Jimmy Hughes, Heather McIntosh, Laura Carter, and newish drummer Josh Lott. Providing a family tree would require months of research, and possibly an abacus, so suffice it to say that most of the people mentioned above have played with pretty much every band on Elephant 6, Orange Twin, Cloud Recordings, Misra, SpinART

Sprite this way:

The Athens, GA gang will head out on tour again next week. After a quick spin around the North American continent, Elf Power will head to England to play the Shins-curated date of All Tomorrow's Parties. More American dates are planned for late summer and early fall.

An episode of the new TBS live music show "Music Road" will feature the band, both playing a set of its own and backing up Vic Chesnutt. According to Elf Power, the episode is supposed to air "sometime in April or May," but no date is confirmed yet. Other South-centric shindigs will spotlight Drive-By Truckers and Sharon Jones.
