Pitchfork: Fiona Apple Announces Mammoth U.S. Trek

After having spent much of the winter and spring cooped up in the confines of America's arenas while opening for Coldplay, Fiona Apple has broken free. She'll spend the summer in the open air of the nation's pavilions, amphitheaters, and corporate sheds, on a headlining tour of her very own.

The two-month jaunt in support of last year's Extraordinary Machine (Pitchfork's 46th favorite album of 2005) will drag sensitive boys David Garza and Damien Rice along to fill the opening slots. The pre-tour festivities begin with a few scattered East Coast dates, notably West Palm Beach's Sunfest, where fans can catch Apple, Omarian, Toots and the Maytals, and Ashlee Simpson all in one day (not too shabby!), and VH1's "Decades Rock Live" concert honoring Elvis Costello, where Apple will join Death Cab for Cutie and Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day in paying tribute to the Great Imposter, all for the benefit of VH1's cameras.
