Beanie Sigel Shot During Robbery Attempt

According to various reports, rapper Beanie Sigel was shot twice this morning during an attempted robbery in South Philadelphia. Police report that Sigel was shot one or two times in his upper right arm, but was able to drive himself to the hospital. He is currently in good condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The assailants were five men traveling in two cars; MTV.com reports that the incident occurred at the intersection of 22nd and Sigel Streets, ironically.

Sigel has a history of run-ins with the law, although mostly from the other side. Born Dwight Grant, Sigel served a year-long term in federal prison for a gun charge; he was released last August. A month afterwards, he was acquitted of attempted murder for allegedly shooting a man in the stomach. Last November, he was temporarily jailed for failure to pay child support.

Sigel has released three albums, The B.Coming (2005), The Reason (2001), and The Truth (2000). He also starred in the State Property movies.
