Exclusive: Josephine Foster Signs to Young God

Peanut butter and jelly, hands and gloves, Seals and Croft-- some things just fit. Add to that list the pairing of opera-trained folkie Josephine Foster and Young God Records. Foster has just signed to the respected imprint, owned and operated by ex-Swan and current Angel of Light Michael Gira, and once home to Devendra Banhart and Calla, among others.

Foster will begin recording her Young God debut, the as-of-yet untitled follow-up to this year's Lieder-iffic A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, June 7 in NYC. Helming this seaworthy effort as co-producers will be cap'n Foster herself and first-mate Gira. The trusty crew, scallywags every one of them: guitarist/bassist Brian Goodman, drummer Rusty Peterson, and bow-fiddler extraordinaire Jason Ajemian (Foster's Born Heller co-conspirator). Saxophonist Matt Bauder and organist Tracey Snyder hop on board for a leg of the voyage, as does a string trio on loan from Antony.

After viciously plundering harbor towns far and wide, Foster and co. will swap their booty for recording equipment and lay to tape such pirate-approved shanties as "Thimbleful of Milk" and "Lap of Your Lust". The sea-scourge won't end until the album drops in early 2007.

Until then, Miss Foster remains ashore, dutifully serenading various landlubbers on the final dates of her current tour. Avast ye mateys, walk tha plank, arrrrrr, etc.:
