Stereolab to Get Rhino Anthology Treatment

Quick 'Lab quiz: what do get when you add 10 LPs plus a bunch of EPs, singles, and compilations plus 15+ years of space age bachelor pad music? The answer is Serene Velocity, the forthcoming Stereolab anthology, to be released by Rhino Records on August 22. Yeah, they're definitely a band that could use some anthologizin'.

Functioning as a retrospective of the band's decade at Elektra Records, Velocity will feature 16 tracks remastered by Stereolab member Tim Gane at Abbey Road Studios. Two of the tracks, "Jenny Ondioline" and "Wow and Flutter" come from 7" singles, while the remaining songs are culled from the seven albums recorded between 1993 and 2004, including selections from 1994's Mars Audiac Quintet, 1996's Emperor Tomato Ketchup, 1997's Dots and Loops, 1999's Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night, 2001's Sound-Dust, and 2004's Margerine Eclipse. Which reminds me that not only has Stereolab released a buttload of music, but they really know how to name those albums.

The anthology will be available on CD, vinyl, and as a digital download, the latter of which includes an exclusive interview with Gane and 'Lab mainstay Laetitia Sadier about making Serene Velocity. Can they take you higher? Quite possibly--with these tracks:
