Summer never sticks around as long as you hope, and by late August-- though it always seems much too early-- signs of seasonal change have begun to set in. Soundtracking these last long dusks seems a specialty for Baltimore duo Beach House, so this track, taken from their self-titled debut album (due October 3 on Carpark Records) could hardly come at a better time. Beneath a soft blanket of reverb, Victoria Legrand's hushed vocals induce hazy summer nostalgia, while sighing slide guitar and spidery organ lines echo the bygone dream-pop of Galaxie 500 and Mazzy Star. It's golden light, long shadows, and brassy leaves-- a perfect song for a never-ending mixtape.
