Nigel Godrich is a hotshot record producer (Radiohead, Beck), but what he really wants to be when he grows up is a TV star.

According to RollingStone.com, Godrich has created "From the Basement", a show for British television that will showcase the best and brightest in alternarock performing live, including several acts pulled from his production back catalog.

The first episode, which has already been shot, features Thom Yorke, the White Stripes, and Four Tet. The second, still in the works, will include Beck and Jamie Lidell, who seem to be inseparable these days.

"I'm interested in the visual arts side of things, and somehow integrating that into what records have become," Godrich told Rolling Stone. "People don't buy albums so much because, as a medium, it's changing, so I'm just trying to figure out what it's changing into, and chasing after that."

"From the Basement" will (unfortunately for music fans) not feature a studio audience. The show will also be available as a video podcast within the next few weeks.
