CMJ Report: Wrap-Up

CMJ Report: Wrap-Up Well, it's all over but the ringing in our ears. As Pitchfork recovers from five days and nights of rock and roll in New York City, here's a brief rundown of what we saw at the 2006 CMJ Music Marathon.

Tuesday: The Rapture were a graveyard smash

Wednesday: Professor Murder killed; Figurines charmed the crowd waiting to see Girl Talk; Girl Talk went shirtless and covered Nirvana (as usual); Dr. Dog, Cold War Kids, and Tapes 'n Tapes flaunted their moment in the sun; the Knife blew minds; Lupe Fiasco partied with zombies; the Twilight Sad inspired goo-goo eyes; Beach House mesmerized; the Slits disappointed; 120 Days taught the indie kids to dance

Thursday: Food for Animals, Drumcorps, White Mice, and Droon terrorized the Cock Rock Disco/Load showcase; Baby Calendar represented for the twee set; Frida Hyvönen had a pottymouth; the Wrens welcomed crowd participation, the Walkmen played "The Rat"; Califone brought a shit-ton of equipment; Marnie Stern shredded expectations; Loney, Dear were underwhelming, dear; Oxford Collapse resurrected grunge fashion; CSS transported the Bowery Ballroom to Brazil; the Thermals electrified; the Shins would've bored even Natalie Portman; Shy Child didn't shy away from their electroclash past; Gang Gang Dance hypnotized; Malajube were heartthrobs in-the-making; Lightning Bolt side project Wizardzz cast a noisy spell

Friday: Lavender Diamond showed potential; Loney, Dear had way too many people; Rjd2 and Peanut Butter Wolf relaxed, Deerhoof stripped down, Mew tried to make prog-rock cool, failed beautifully; Thunderbirds Are Now! packed 'em in; Excepter improvised; the Big Sleep woke everybody up; the Decemberists filled the ginormous Hammerstein Ballroom and the tiny Apple Store; Don Juan Dracula were on fire; the Low Frequency in Stereo droned; 120 Days showed up again; the Blow lost a member, gained a captivated audience; the Grates danced with balloons, ribbons; Sunn 0))) shook bowels with David Grubbs and Earth's Steve Moore; the Drones continued to be underrated; American Heritage fucked a napkin full of toenails; Dysrhythmia brought family

Saturday: The Fall refused to die; Clipse kept the crowd waiting, then left us begging for more; Isis' Mike Gallagher went solo as MGR; Made out of Babies were too quiet
