Bloc Party Cancels North American Tour

Bloc Party Cancels North American Tour

Not that we weren't pulling for Bloc Party drummer Matt Tong after he suffered a collapsed lung last Thursday, but we kind of assumed that his band's North American tour with Panic! at the Disco! and Jack's Mannequin was, at the very least, up in the air.

Tong, as previously reported, was admitted to an Atlanta hospital on November 9, following a performance in the city earlier that evening. The percussionist was put under observation for three days, forcing Bloc Party to call off four shows.

According to a press release, "While Matt is on the road to recovery doctors have advised that he not travel or play again for another few weeks in order to give his lung time to properly heal."

And thus, Bloc Party's full North American trek has been canceled.

"We would like to apologize to all of our fans here who won't be able to see us on this tour," frontman Kele Okereke said in the press release. We were looking forward to playing in a number of American cities that we've never been to before, however, Matt's health is our number one priority right now."

We wish Matt a speedy recovery.

Ticket refunds will be made available at point-of-purchase.***UPDATE: Apparently this is not the case for all shows. Check your local listings!

There is no word with regard to the status of Bloc Party's upcoming UK tour, slated to kick off in late January.

And just to remind everybody once again, the band's new LP, A Weekend in the City, is due February 5 on Wichita in the UK and February 6 on Vice in the U.S. It will be preceded by a single, "The Prayer", on January 29 in the UK.
