Video: Susanna and the Magical Orchestra: "Love Will Tear Us Apart"

Susanna and the Magical Orchestra's haunted take on Joy Division perennial favorite "Love Will Tear Us Apart"-- from the duo's 2006 covers LP Melody Mountain (Rune Grammofon)-- strips away the synth and jangle to reveal the stark vulnerability inhabiting Ian Curtis' tortured lyrics.

We were taken by it enough to include the thoughtful rendition on Pitchfork's Infinite Mixtape, and now Rune G graphic design guru and solo artist Kim Hiorthøy has put together a graceful performance video.

Given the cover's delicate pacing, this audio-visual document is a bit heavy on the cuts (though quite conservative by music video standards), but striking and beautiful nonetheless, with the fades-to-black giving the impression of hushed breaths on a cold night, leaving a taste in the mouth as desperation takes hold, and-- well, you know the rest. Sit back, turn off your cell phones, and enjoy.
