Rufus Wainwright Announces New Album Details
Rufus Wainwright will release his fifth album, Release the Stars, on Geffen in May. Pet Shop Boys singer Neil Tennant executive produced the Want Two follow-up, which is Wainwright's first self-produced album. Producer Marius DeVries (David Bowie, Björk, Madonna, Melanie C) mixed the record, and it features contributions from Richard Thompson, Joan Wasser (Antony and the Johnsons, Joan as Police Woman), and actress Siân Phillips as well.
Wainwright will also continue his Judy Garland obsession with two shows in London and one in Paris this month, where he will recreate Garland's 1961 Carnegie Hall performance just as he did in New York last June. He will even pay tribute to Garland's follow-up show at the Hollywood Bowl with his own show there, though that won't take place until September 23. He is also scheduled to perform at Coachella in April.
