Deerhunter Hit the Mark With New EP, Double-Vinyl

While the file-sharing-chaste among us are just beginning to digest Deerhunter's Best New Music-inducted Cryptograms (released last week via Kranky), the rest of us mp3 whores are already craving something new from the psych-noise quintet. Lucky for us, Deerhunter are ready to deliver.

On April 16, those Atlanta whipper-snappers strike back with the Fluorescent Grey EP, a four-track affair recorded during the mixing of Cryptograms. It even comes bundled with James Sumner's trippy video for Cryptograms' "Strange Lights". And while a lot of EPs serve as sonic bridges to sounds beyond, Kranky insists this one documents what was more than what will be.

Fluorescent Grey "functions in many ways as an epilogue to both [Cryptograms] and the accompanying well-reported anxiety surrounding its creation," claims the press release. "The band now has a clean slate to explore something entirely new in the future."

Oh, and vinyl fetishists? This should grease your styluses (eww): that same day Kranky will issue Cryptograms and Fluorescent Grey together in one swank 2xLP package. Hot!

As previously reported, Deerhunter take the nation (and Canada) by storm this March, including a spot at the Pitchfork/Windish day-party-of-the-century at SXSW.
