Sunset Rubdown's Lover Due on Jagjaguwar

Sunset Rubdown's Lover Due on Jagjaguwar Spencer Krug's got all these wild and winsome songs locked up inside that head of his, and the boy's just aching to set them free. Having already sampled many a new tune on that recent tour with Xiu Xiu (including Forkcast-highlighted "Pier"*), seems Krug and his Sunset Rubdown outfit will undergo further catharsis by just piling on the newness.

Today comes the announcement that the quartet have signed to a new label, Jagjaguwar (also home to Krug-blessed supergroup Swan Lake), and will-- under that fine label's aegis-- unleash a new LP, Random Spirit Lover, on an as-yet-unspecified date in October.

Random Spirit Lover is presently set to collect 12 new-ish tunes (tentative tracklist ahead) from Krug and company, with titles like "Trumpet, Trumpet, Toot! Toot!" and "The Taming of the Hands That Came Back to Life" straying dangerously close to Sufjan-territory (or Danielson-land, for that matter). The epic "Winged/Wicked Things", a longtime live favorite that Sunset Rubdown also recorded for Daytrotter.com, makes the current Lovers cut as well. The disc follows up last year's much-adored Shut Up I Am Dreaming.

Expect another Sunset Rubdown tour to materialize around the album's fall release. For now, catch the crew at Ottawa's Capital Idea! festival on June 21; they'll play the city's Babylon Nightclub, with Miracle Fortress-- whose live band includes Sunset's Jordan Robson-Cramer-- opening.
