Photos: Frog Eyes [Chicago, IL; 05/27/07] Ever hop under the covers on a particularly chilly night and just let loose one hell of a wiggle, your own little cathartic ode to the warmth that has until that moment eluded you? My theory is this is what Carey Mercer's doing each night on stage with every yelp and grimace, at least 75% of the time (the other 25% he's catching his breath, see).

Perhaps this also goes some to explain the Frog Eyes frontman's especially jovial mood between songs at this Schubas gig, where he and band (no Spencer Krug this time out) treated a boisterous crowd to selections from this year's Tears of the Valedictorian. Banter topics touched upon included: Tom Tom Club, Yoo-hoo ("the chocolate drink, you know?"), and (facetiously) Mercer's burgeoning side career as an improv poet.

Frog Eyes brave Fargo tonight before sweeping back to their Canadian homeland to wrap up this latest tour.
