Stones Throw Gears Up for Busy Summer

New Oh No album, Peanut Buttler Wolf tours
Stones Throw Gears Up for Busy Summer

While Madlib could probably keep Stones Throw afloat all by himself with his typically busy upcoming release schedule (Jaylib's Champion Sound reissue on June 19, the Yesterdays Universe compilation on July 17, and Beat Konducta Vol. 3: Beat Konducta in India on August 28), the rest of the artists on the label's roster remain active as well.

Most of that roster appeared on the second volume of Chrome Children, and though Stones Throw originally unleashed the comp online for free, it will now see an official CD release available for purchase on June 19.

In addition to Chrome Children Vol. 2 and the reissue of Champion Sound, the third Stones Throw release to hit shelves on June 19 will be the self-titled debut from Bumps, aka Tortoise's John McEntire, John Herndon, and Dan Bitney. And from June 20-26, the previously reported Tortoise dates are part of the West Coast Fonk Bumps Tour with Dudley Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow.

Madlib's younger brother Oh No will release an instrumental album constructed from samples of 60s and 70s funk, psych, jazz, and rock from the Mediterranean (Italy, Turkey, Greece, Lebanon). The album is titled Dr. No's Oxperiment -- named for Oh No's base of operations in Oxnard, California. Stones Throw will release Oxperiment on July 31.

Percee P is still prepping Perseverance for an August 14 release. The album features Madlib production and guest vocal turns from Aesop Rock, the now defunct Jurassic 5's Chali 2na, and Prince Po.

Starting June 10, Stones Throw honcho Peanut Butter Wolf will spend seven consecutive nights spinning seven different genres at seven different Los Angeles clubs. This is in preparation for his all-Christian-music 777 Mix that will be the Stones Throw podcast beginning July 7.

For those whose minds have not short-circuited from numerology overload, Peanut Butter Wolf also has a ton of other tour dates this summer, quite of few of which are with Percee P, Aloe Blacc, J. Rocc, and Guilty Simpson as the Stones Throw Europe Tour.

Finally, masked man of mystery MF Doom will appear live on this summer's previously reported Rock the Bells festival, alongside the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Rage Against the Machine, Nas, the Roots, and Public Enemy.
