Calvin Harris Created Disco, Signs to Almost Gold
I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that up-and-coming groovemaker Calvin Harris is 23 years of age. Despite being born nearly five years after the famed Comiskey Park "Disco Demolition Night", Harris has titled his debut album I Created Disco. Sure, it's a statement practically as incredulous as We Invented the Remix, but hey, if this kid does Puffy numbers, he can stake a claim to the wheel.
Already a hit in the UK, where the album was released by Columbia on June 18; I Created Disco is set to come out in the U.S. on the Columbia sub-label Almost Gold Recordings on September 4. Harris marks the second signing to the imprint, following sweet Swedish songsters Peter Bjorn and John.
Will the young folks of America take to Harris' boldness? We'll find out this fall. In the meantime, Harris is touring the United Kingdom's festival circuit, like any good dance artist should.
