Love Documentary to Show in L.A., Reissues Out Now

Retrospect has been mighty kind to Love, the once-underappreciated, now-feted L.A.-born psych-folk act best known for their glistening third album Forever Changes. And, in the spirit of retrospect, Love are the subject of two recent retrospectives: a triple-CD set of some of their lesser-known recordings, and a documentary detailing their time as a band.

First, the film; Love Story features interviews with all of Love's original band members, including late Love leader Arthur Lee, whose contributions to Love Story were filmed before his passing last summer. Love Story also features contributions from members of Primal Scream and the Doors, and Elektra Records head Jac Holzman. The film, which made its proper debut in London last October, has its North American premiere this weekend, airing twice as part of the annual Los Angeles Film Festival: once tonight (June 22) at the Mann Festival Theatre, and once June 24 at the Majestic Crest Theatre.

Then, there's the CD reissue box. A collection of Love's post-Elektra, post-Forever Changes material entitled Love: The Blue Thumb Recordings recently hit shelves in a limited edition. Remastered versions of the rare Out Here, the long out-of-print False Start, and a slew of previously unreleased live tracks round out this three CD set, out now from Hip-O Select.
