Boratto, Mayer, Superpitcher, Koze, Rex on Total 8
Plus: Burger/Ink reborn as Burger/Voigt for comp, Total 8 party in August
Sure, James Murphy was there for the first Can show in Cologne, or whatever, but will he be there for the Kompakt family's annual Total celebration this August? And will he have a compilation in hand of pretty much every great act making techno in the aughts, otherwise known as Total 8?
He will if he scoops up Total 8 via Kompakt on August 13. This latest label showpiece follows up, yes, last year's Total 7 and includes choice cuts from all your Kompakt favorites: Gui Boratto, Michael Mayer, Superpitcher, Rex the Dog, DJ Koze, Reinhard Voigt, Justus Köhncke, Jörg Burger, et al. What's more, the disc also includes a sneak peak at the forthcoming Supermayer record, and the whole thing kicks off with a banger from the reunited Burger/Ink (signed to Matador back in the day). The duo-- Jörg Burger and Kompakt chief Wolfgang Voigt-- has rechristened itself Burger/Voigt, since Voigt has decidedly retired his Mike Ink alias.
Consider this compilation your invitation to the bash it celebrates, Kompakt's Total 8 party, going down August 17 at Cologne's Gladbacher Wall. In addition to the debut live performance from the reborn Burger/Voigt (also Voigt's first in 10 years), the event will also feature sets from the Field, Superpitcher, Michael Mayer, Reinhard Voigt, Tobias Thomas, Jennifer Cardini, Robert Babicz, Geo, Beatschubiger, and Jo, with several label heavyweights performing under the Kompakt Allstars banner. Book your flights/trains now, so you can someday sing-speak with confidence, "I was there."
