Knife, Hot Chip, Simian Play Second Life Fest
What kind of geek gets all their music through the internet, anyway?

We're saddened to report that the storied "fourth wall" dividing fantasy from reality is scheduled for demolition this weekend. Weakened some years ago after two of the male leads from the 1987 aliens-in-Central America action flick Predator were elected actual governors of actual states, some semblance of the fourth wall nevertheless held on until today.

The final blow came with the announcement that Second Life, the creepy computer game where geeks get a chance to act out that which regular reality won't permit them to-- kiss girls and walk around outdoors, primarily-- is hosting an all-online music festival this weekend, featuring the Knife, a Hot Chip DJ set, Simian Mobile Disco, New Young Pony Club, Tiga, the Aliens, Digitalism, Coldcut, Wiley, Fields, Infinite Livez, and others. Caution: thinking about the implications something like this has on the future success of our species may, indeed, split your brain in half.

It would appear as though none of the aforementioned acts are playing specifically for Second Life; many of their sets will be captured at various festivals and club dates and broadcast through the Second Life interface, with, presumably, accompanying animated dancing avatars.

However, a couple bands-- who, I think it's safe to assume, don't have too many gigs lined up that aren't in Second Life-- will be performing "live" on the "Chill Island" stage. You know, they say no man is an island, but dudes who play Second Life aren't far off.

Yes, we know that this isn't the first time Second Life has held concerts. Duran Duran, Gnarls Barkley, and Muse are just a few of the bands who have, um, "played" Second Life. But we still think it's creepy. (Sorry, Chris Dahlen!)
